Sophomores & Junior Years -- Time to Get Involved!
Your student has finally learned his or her way around
campus and knows exactly what to expect on the first
day of classes when a new semester begins. Your student
has maneuvered through all of the tough lessons learned
as a freshman, but now he or she has a whole new set of
transitions to go through. The following is a list of
resources and unique opportunities compiled especially
for sophomores and juniors.
Students should stay abreast of all class requirements as they move into a time of deciding majors and applying to professional schools like Pharmacy, Business, Journalism or Nursing. They should consult the following resources as well as contact the school in which they are interested for more details on requirements and application processes.

Although your student is not a senior yet, it is important that he or she consider the future while deciding on a major or professional school to enter. Also, many sophomores and juniors find internships to be very useful tools in gaining experience, exploring careers and developing a resume. Others choose to work in a local business or on campus to earn extra money.

For part-time semester and summer jobs in the area, students can view the University Career Services (UCS) listing if they have registered on the Web site. Students should also check with individual departments around campus where they would be interested in working.
There are diverse living options for students in Chapel Hill. Several apartments and townhouses are located within walking or biking distance, and many others are covered by Chapel Hill Transit bus routes. Some students choose to live off campus, but a great number also decide to stay on campus in residence halls or student apartments on South Campus.
