Volunteer On-Campus or in Your Hometown!
The Office of New Student & Carolina Parent Programs provides its services to the parents of 16,000 undergraduate students. We would love to have your help! If you'd like to volunteer with any of the following programs or events, please contact us at parents@unc.edu or 919-962-8304.
ummer Send-Off parties are hosted by Carolina parents and alumni across the country. They welcome incoming first-year students and provide a time for students and parents from the same area to meet each other and network in hopes of providing a familiar face for students once the semester begins. Parent volunteers are needed as hosts and co-hosts. Our office provides a guidebook, invitations, support and ideas.
During Move-In weekend, Parent Programs sets up several stations
on North and South campuses to give out Parent Handbooks, sign
parents up for our e-mail listservs, and answer questions. This
proved to be largely successful last year. It's also especially
easy to work.
The Carolina Parents Association only meets once annually. Parents Clubs allow parents from defined areas to gather more frequently and closer to home. We already have a group of dedicated parents who are leading clubs in their areas, but we would love for all Carolina Parents to be in a club. We need parent volunteers to start and lead new clubs. Our office will provide interested parents with more information and starter materials.

The main goal of these two programs is providing information to parents and families when they are visiting Carolina during the summer for CTOPS or TSOP and during the weekend before classes begin as their students are moving to campus. We set up information tables, hand out Parents Handbooks, sign parents up for the e-mail list and tell them more about opportunities with the Parents Association. If you enjoy talking to other parents and helping them through the beginning of their students’ college experiences, join us for these programs.
Family Weekend is one of our office’s biggest productions of the year. We are responsible for coordinating meals, meetings, entertainment, family registration and making sure that things run smoothly. If you'd be interested in helping during Family Weekend, we'd love to have you! In the weeks prior to Family Weekend, there is much work that has to be done as well.
